New Star Poll Will Show Obama On Top

(Bumped from the user diaries. The IndyStar poll will also have results on the gubernatorial race. - promoted by Thomas)

Word from the meeting with legislative candidates in Marion County comes this evening that the new Indianapolis Star poll releasing Thursday morning will show Obama on top of McCain in their latest poll taken this week. The race is tightening for sure, and all of the polling in Indiana has been close, most of them within the margin of error.

Marion County Democratic Party Chairman Ed Treacy, speaking with the candidates for Indiana House and Senate at their strategy meeting tonight told the crowd that the new poll has Obama up and that the Obama Effect on legislative races will put Marion County Democrats on the ballot over the top this November.

If true, this will energize Central Indiana D's at a critical juncture in the campaign. If you have not already done so, I urge you all to contact your local legislative candidates and volunteer for their GOTV efforts and walk the districts with them in these last few weeks of the campaign.

If you need some suggestions for candidates who could use some help not in your own district but in tight races, check out John Barnes in HD 89 on the east side of Indy and Beech Grove, or check out Stephanie DeKemper in HD 92 on the northwest and west sides of Indy. Pam Hickman on the north side of Indy, Zionsville and Carmel is also in a tight race and could use some muscle to help her in her fight with Cindy Noe in HD 87.

ELLSWORTH FOR SENATE 2010

Good call (4.00 / 2)
All of our candidates are worthwhile folks fighting the good fight. Mary Ann Sullivan is a great one and can use all the help she can get too.

the republicans (0.00 / 0)
alone are going to kick his ass....plus Mary Ann Sullivan is running one hard wll organized campaign.

Lest we forget (4.00 / 2)
Irvington seems to be a key battleground. Ken Kern is running in Senate District 32 which encompasses Barnes' district as well as down into Johnson, Hancock and Shelby counties. I caught up with ken Kern at the recent HobNob, here is the video from that meeting.

OBAMA AHEAD (0.00 / 0)
Just saw the poll on www.indystar.com . Were on the way to blue.

Obama 47, McCain 44 (4.00 / 1)

Yes, even Democratic authority.

It's a good place to be... (0.00 / 0)
but this will almost certainly cause McCain to start spending money here.  He can't afford to lose Indiana.

Even if McCain starts spending money here... (4.00 / 1)
...this is good news.  1)  Indiana gets more attention and more money coming into the economy.  2)  If McCain is spending money here, he's not able to spend as much elsewhere.

MN (0.00 / 0)
Everything you guys are saying about IN, the McCain campaign is probably saying about MN.  It's the same situation, only reversed.  Only difference is, the polls appear to be closer there, and MN is more of a bonafide swing state than IN.  Also more electoral votes.

Indiana has 11 EVS. MN has 10. (4.00 / 1)
The numbers in MN aren't good right now.  I'm hoping and expecting that to be a temporary problem.  We'll see.

My bad (4.00 / 1)
I thought MN had more

ELLSWORTH FOR SENATE 2010

I think we'll see the Minnesota numbers mellow out -- (4.00 / 2)
Palin's popularity plateaued, and has since taken a bit of a tumble. They invested a good portion of their narrative into her, and now that the stock is sinking, McCain isn't exactly coping well.

I'm encouraged.

[ Parent ]
No, Mario... (4.00 / 1)
Obama has had a consistent lead in MN, until the Republican convention there that led to a McCain bounce.  As we've seen that bounce erode nationally, so too will it erode in one of a handful of states that voted against Ronald Reagan both times.

In Indiana, the two candidates have traded leads throughout the year, and McCain has no ground game here like Obama has in MN.

Tsk tsk, Mario (4.00 / 1)
try to be accurate next time, huh?

Minnesota saw tens of millions pour into their state within the month.  A national party convention is a huge asset to any state...a temporary blip in the polls was to be expected.

Obama has never lost his lead there, by most reputable polls, although it did get down to a tie recently.

Time will tell...but Minnesota has a strong Democratic female senator, who has already blunted the Palin effect.

The "Palin Effect" (0.00 / 0)
is not a gender-based thing.  She is shoring up McCain's base, if anything.

she is shoring up ours also

the last 3 polls have shown Obama has regained the lead that the lost during the Palin frenzy........it will continue to build.
