Obama-Carson radio spot hits the airwaves

by: Thomas

Thu Apr 24, 2008 at 13:51:14 PM EDT

Jim Shella gives the scoop on the benefits Rep. Andre Carson is enjoying since his endorsement of Sen. Barack Obama.
AndrĂ© Carson's campaign just put out a radio ad that hits tomorrow.. 60 seconds.. Barack Obama speaking.  The endorsement is the payback for Carson's super delegate endorsement of Obama.

What else Carson get?

Look for a TV ad featuring Obama, plus, the Illinois Senator led the rookie Congressman to some big donors in New York earlier this week to help get the message on the air.

Here's the radio spot mentioned above:

Update: Tyrion in the diaries section gives the scoop on another candidate -- it looks like David Orentlicher has loaned his campaign a sizable sum of money.

"Real Change" (0.00 / 0)
Andre Carson is not the kind of change Barack Obama offers.  Andre has taken 71% of his campaign funds from out of state PACs and DC lobbyists.

Senator Obama is a sellout.  I might just vote for Hillary Clinton now.

THE HORRORS!!! (0.00 / 0)
Taking money from unions and left-leaning progressive PACs!  You'd almost think Andre Carson was some sort of pro-labor, politically involved congressman supporting progressive legislation.  Well we wouldn't want that...

[ Parent ]
Wow (0.00 / 0)
I didn't realize that financial institutions and corporate PACs suddenly became "left-leaning."  Very interesting news indeed.

By the way, have you guys figured out why Andre missed two House votes yet?

Well (0.00 / 0)
If you actually bothered to research this issue before spouting off you would know that Andre accepted only around $50,000 from corporate or industrial PACs; about $130,000 from Union PACs; and  about $160,000 from Progressive or Democratic PACs.

The "missed" votes?  Anyone who sees that as anything but a completely trivial, meaningless bit of gotcha politics is an idiot.  And you can quote me on that, darlin' ;)

Hillary has been honest about special interest money from the beginning (0.00 / 0)
A Hillary Clinton Presidency will not be a disappointment because she has not spent her entire campaign writing checks she knows she won't be able to cash.  She has been honest about the limitations of the White House's influence on Congress.  Here is an instance of Sen. Obama undermining his own message.

Andre Carson's endorsement was bought and paid for with this ad, and that seems like politics-as-usual to me.  Not the loafty change Sen. Obama has spent an entire campaign talking about.

Actions vs. words: Vote Hillary on May 6th.

I happened to talk to Andre (0.00 / 0)
About him being an Obama supporter way before it was even possible that Indiana would matter.  I don't understand how two progressive candidates with similar agenda endorsing each other represents politics as usual...

[ Parent ]
Hearsay (0.00 / 0)
Regardless of when you claim Congressman Carson decided to support Obama, he definitely waited to do it publically until right before our Democratic Primary.  If you talked to him "way before it was even possible that Indiana would matter" then you obviously takled to him before he was elected Representative, and perhaps he was referring to his support as a private citizen rather than a superdelegate.

Anyway, my comment is in response to Vox's complaint that Sen.Obama did not endorse the candidate that has refused to accept special interest money.  The three leading candidates all share Sen.Obama's progressive agenda. If Sen.Obama is sincerely concerned and committed to mitigating special interest influence on Congress, then it seems he might be more inclined to support someone who has a policy of not accepting any.  Otherwise, it seems Sen.Obama is just making the Congress that much more difficult to work with and change if he is elected President. Hence, it seems to me that Sen.Obama would rather talk about the supposed evils of speical interests rather than take any action against them.  This is very much politics-as-usual which Sen.Obama has ceaselessly claimed to be against.

i heard the ad a couple hours ago and was wondering when it would hit blue indiana...  i would've posted a comment but wasn't sure which thread would be appropriate.

this should silence those who refused to believe that obama was endorsing carson.

Well it looks like Obama made my decision for me. Go Hillary, she has my vote on May 6th now.

This is Part & Parcel for Joh (0.00 / 0)
You'll recall he didn't see any difference between Jon Elrod and Andre Carson.  It's called politics as narcissism where our own personal bitterness towards a given candidate should outweigh any and all larger considerations.  If you think, in general, Obama is a stronger candidate than Clinton but you vote for Clinton because you think it's impossible for anyone to come to a contrary conclusion about who is best to represent the 7th district without being a liar, shill, or idiot, you are not only stupid, you are also a selfish narcissist.

[ Parent ]
I love you too (0.00 / 0)
I've been called stupid, dumb, selfish, fat and lazy before, but narcissist is a new one for me. Care to add any other descriptors?

Meh. (0.00 / 0)
You've had no problem calling Andre stupid, lazy, and selfish for merely having the nerve to run for elected office, so I'm not feeling too bad for that one.

But you're sort of missing the forest for the trees on this one, Joh.

Frankly, the the most irritating thing about trying to have a conversation with any of you Myers or Orentlicher supporters is not that you don't support my candidate, it's that you really seem to believe that support for Andre Carson can only be explained as duplicity, dishonesty, stupidity, or malice--that reasonably people can't disagree with you.  Your decision to vote for Hillary Clinton on the strength of Obama's endorsement of Andre is the perfect encapsulation of that mentality.   Heaven forbid that Obama come to a different conclusion about who is best to represent the district.

[ Parent ]
your just joking right (0.00 / 1)
In what Orwellian nightmare do you people come from, and how can I help you. Do you people really see this garbage as some how change and hope. You just had a congressman sell his super delegate vote for an endorsement and lobbyist money. Is this really how Democracy is supposed to work? This is not change, and I find no hope in it! It is the same old politics that I have had to live with all my life here. And behold a man appears with change on his lips, but politics and deceit in his heart. Obama can buy Andre's vote, but he can not buy mine. I know when i have been insulted and called smalltown; its the same as redneck, rube, hillbilly, and you can explain it away however you want, and your supporter can explain it for you, especially the ones you just called smalltown. Get a grip, learn how to tell the difference when you are being lied to. Government is only as good as what its people expect from it, and it appear that we all expect so little that we allow the government to lie, cheat, kill, steal without any accountability. I am ashamed of Obama and Andre, I do not care if you get elected or not, you will never represent me. The king is dead, long live the king. And to you inept drones just keep putting out that drivel because some how that makes everything that they do wrong; ok! My hope is that i live long enough to see this country experience its next revolution. Welcome to the machine you drones!!!

I still think you need to chill out (0.00 / 0)
But I will say that unlike Sen.Obama, Hillary has not sold herself as a transformative figure.  Both she and Sen.Obama are consummate politicians, only Hillary hasn't wrapped herself in the package of a post-partisan, post-political, unity-candidate of the future.  I find Hillary's campaign to be the more inspiring, intellectually-honest and realistic of the two, which is why she definitately has my vote on May 6th.

I'm gellin, are you gellin? (0.00 / 1)
I would chill out, but i keep hearing all these words about change, hope, man of the people; and it occurs to me that this is the "New Speak" written about by George Orwell. Where the Government says one thing, but does the other. Where is this Hope and Change that is being offered? Obama insults the whole Midwest, and its alright. Andre's whole life is an example of what is wrong with government;I.E. nepotism, and yet he represents me in congress. He accepts money from whatever lobbyists or special interests comes his way. Obama comes to Indy and buys Andre's vote with an endorsement and intro to New York special interest monies. I am damn mad. In my world these people would not be running for government they would be being prosecuted. Is this the great hope and change of the Obamites? Seems to me we have that sort of government already. Is this really the best we can do? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. My hope is that Liberty Trees are growing all over this country and that the Sons of Liberty meet there. Where are you Sons of Liberty? Because change does need to happen, its just a question of how much change. Shh..they be Tyrants here!!!

I'm not in the 7th district (0.00 / 0)
but looking on from afar, I have to wonder if Obama didn't screw himself over on this.  You've got three candidates fighting over the Black vote, and while that may drive up turnout, the big question is who that drives out to vote.

There's not a whole lot of action on the GOP ballot, and you can vote in either primary.  The 7th district is around 30% black and in a normal election year black voters are going to make up about half the democratic electorate in the 7th.  This year you've got 3 candidates in the 7th fighting for the black vote, and you have to wonder whether Mays and Myers voters are going to vote for Obama if they don't see him backing their candidate.  Second, since there's so little action on the GOP side, and a historic fight on the Democratic side, how many people who normally vote for the GOP are going to cross over.

And who are they going to vote for?  I don't think anythings set in stone, but I do think that this could have an important impact on the way the vote splits out between Obama/Clinton and in the 7th CD race.

I guess you don't check the news daily, but Hillary's way out of debt.  She raised $10million in 24hrs from 80k new donors.  Pay attention, BlueBeard!  This race isn't over yet.

http://politicalticker.blogs.c...

PS- She now has more popular votes than Sen.Obama; that's probably news to you too.

PPS- Please don't call my candidate and our future President a "sure loser"; it's inaccurate and not nice! :(

she may have cash flow (0.00 / 0)
But she owes over $15 million. In no way is that "way out of debt."

And as far as popular votes go, you must be leaving out caucus states and including Florida and Michigan, where other candidates stuck to their DNC pledges to stay out of those races.

Argue with facts, please.

[ Parent ]
Facts: (0.00 / 0)
Hillary has receieved more votes than any other Democratic primary candidate in history.  Of course that includes Florida and Michigan, becuase I don't believe in disenfranchising Democratic voters.  Sen.Obama was on the ballot in Florida, and he had the option to be on the ballot in Michigan, but he chose instead to ingratiate himself to voters in Iowa.  /Facts.

look again (0.00 / 0)
Her campaign reports show that even with her five million dollar personal loan that she is still in debt.   If you wish to disenfranchise the voters of 13 states who had caucuses and include the votes of the 2 states where Hillary agreed not to run.....Obama wasnt even on the ballot in Michigan......why do you think over 40% of the democrats who went to vote in Michigan vote uncommitted....because they do not support the lies of the sure loser candidate.  You, my friend,  have been drinking too much of the Clinton Kool Aid.

[ Parent ]
I've stated this before (0.00 / 0)
The Uncommitted votes should count for Sen.Obama.  I think that's being generous, though, considering he has made every effort to make sure those voters remained disenfranchised.  The MI legislature tried to organize a revote, but the Obama campaign was uninterested.

By the way, have you guys figured out why Andre missed two House votes yet?

I almost forgot about that, his vaunted and much touted staff obviously made a huge goof and scheduled his naptime or a meeting with some New York fundraisers for Obama to pay for the ads going up from him.

Are you employed by the Woody Myers campaign?

Well that clears that up... (3.00 / 2)
7th Congressional District:  Myers
Democratic Presidential Primary:  Clinton

Carson goes against everything Obama is campaigning for. Obama campaigns for change. Carson isnt change, he's more of the same.

Obama campaigns against special interest groups having too much pull in Washington.  Carson gladly accepts special interest PAC money.

It doesnt make sense to me.  Obama has lost my vote with his endorsement of Carson, I am very sorry to say.  Its a hypocritical endorsement, if you ask me.

Queue the attacks in 3...2...1...

I agree (2.00 / 1)
That is what I am talking about. It looks like politics as usual. Makes me wish the Green Party candidate would win or something. Something to send a message to Washington that this is not acceptable anymore.

Good for Andre (4.00 / 1)
I'm voting for Obama, and I wish he hadn't gotten involved, but somehow, Andre wrangled an endorsement out of Barack.

For me the 7th boils down to a vote for someone who can vote the right way on important issues.People can make their own judgments about that--ample information exists from the top 4 Dem candidates.  Endorsements won't make a difference.

Again we read on this blog the incorrect information that Hillary has more popular votes than Barack.  It's simply not true, and she knows it.  It could become true in future primaries, but it's nt true now.

It truly is silly season.
