Bill Clinton just finished his swing through the state today, visiting Columbus, Seymour, Bedford and Bloomington. While he was on the road, the two Democratic presidential campaigns were sparring over claims and counter-claims related to NAFTA.
The Obama campaign Tuesday challenged Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's claim that she spoke out against the North American Free Trade Agreement before its 1993 passage.
And the campaign said Clinton's claim goes beyond the crucial issue of jobs and raises questions about her ability to tell the truth.
"The question people have to ask themselves is, 'If she won't be candid about where she was before, how can you have confidence about where she'll be in the future?"' Obama strategist David Axelrod told Indiana reporters.
Joe Hogsett, who is heading Clinton's campaign in Indiana, responded that Obama needs to explain "why his top economic policy adviser was telling the Canadians that his promise to fix NAFTA was just political posturing."
Elsewhere today, word came from the Obama camp that Dave Matthews will be in Bloomington on Sunday for a free concert and voter drive. Details via the Star:
Sen. Barack Obama is bringing some star power to Indiana to encourage Hoosiers to register to vote.
Singer Dave Matthews, and his long-time collaborator Tim Reynolds, will perform in a free concert Sunday in Assembly Hall at Indiana University.
The deadline to register to vote is Monday.
The concert will begin at 7 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are free to anyone with Indiana identification or an in-state student identification, and can be obtained at Obama headquarters in Bloomington, Indianapolis and Purdue.
