Poll: Andre Carson and Jon Elrod in Dead Heat!

by: Vox Populi

Sat Jan 12, 2008 at 17:56:27 PM EST

Just came across this ad Advance Indiana.  Apparantly, a poll commissioned by Carolene Mays is showing Andre Carson in a dead heat with State Representative Jon Elrod.

A poll commissioned by the unsuccessful campaign of State Rep. Carolene Mays, which was meant to bolster her bid in today's Democratic caucus voting for the 7th District race, may instead inadvertently boost State Rep. Jon Elrod's bid to win the GOP nomination in tomorrow's GOP caucus slating for the March 11 special election. According to the poll, Democrat Andre Carson is in a near-dead heat race with Jon Elrod. With a margin of error rate of plus or minus 4.9%, Carson edges Elrod by only three points, 41-38%. When the poll was further broken down into likely special election voters, Carson's lead over Elrod increased slightly to 45-40%. http://advanceindiana.blogspot...

I'm sure a divided party will only make things all the more difficult for Andre.  I know I look forward to being a Democrat for Elrod until the Special takes place, even if it means giving the Republicans a seat for 9 months.

I have a question for you (4.00 / 1)
Do you want the right wing Republicans to take over the US House?  Because that's what will likely happen if they win this race.  Money will start flowing into their campaigns and they will be defeating Democratic incumbents all over the country.  Is that what you want?

Doomsday Scenario? (0.00 / 0)
Republicans are going to lose seats in the US Congress.  If there were only a few seats seperating them from us, I'd swallow the poison pill and vote for your man.  But there is room to lose this seat, Democrats will still expand their margin in both the House and Senate.

Democratic incumbents "all over the country" aren't running on their grandma's name, I don't think they have much to worry about.

Democrats don't have much room (4.00 / 1)
for error.  All Republicans need is a net gain of 16 seats(15 if they win this) to put John Boehner in the Speaker's chair.  Boehner would be the most right wing Speaker of the House in history.  This is a man that wants the minimum wage abolished and called Social Security "wasteful spending".  Im not ready to take that chance.

So.. (0.00 / 0)
What you're saying is that you are fine being represented in Congress by an unqualified candidate without a voting trail who rode to the nomination on his granny's name?  Did I get that right?

Republicans are going to LOSE seats, not pick them up.  The Democratic margin will increase, and a Republican, if he won this seat in the Special Election, would lose it in November.

And Boehner would not become speaker.

Boehner (0.00 / 0)
would become speaker if Republicans took over the House again.

Thanks, Wilson (0.00 / 0)
If it were an automatic ascent, Dick Armey would have become Speaker after Gingrich stepped down.

Domino Theory? (0.00 / 0)
I was under the impression that we had canned the Domino Theory after Vietnam...

If we go over and check out DCCC.org, who's tossing their weight behind Mr. Carson, vit their Red-to-Blue campaign, they all seem confident that we'll pick up seats by the truckload this fall.  And I, for one, don't see why we wouldn't.

Thank you! (0.00 / 0)
The idea that a single race in Indianapolis as a catalyst for Republican resurgance across the nation is silly.
