Perennial candidate Mike Sodrel is apparently still kicking around the idea of buying into another Congressional election, but continues to delay citing the rigors of a negative election (stone, meet glass house) and the fact that he doesn't really want to run unless Hillary Clinton is on the top of the 2008 Democratic ticket. Nowhere do I see a mention of that little thing often described as "the drive to serve the people of the 9th district," but what's a little brutal honesty about your true motivations between friends:
Republican Mike Sodrel made an appearance at a Bloomington GOP event last week and -- according to some who attended -- sounded very much like a candidate for Congress.
But on Friday, the three-time candidate and one-time winner of the 9th District U.S. House seat said he won't make an announcement -- one way or the other -- until the first week in October. He said that's the latest it would be wise to wait.

The 2004 race was especially close, with Sodrel eking out a win. Last year, Hill won easily after running an impressive campaign with some renewed enthusiasm.
In both of those cases, the campaigns from both sides were brutal.
Last week, Sodrel said that's one of his considerations.
"It's hard for the granddaughters to watch the campaign ads," said Sodrel, a trucking company executive. "I know it's coming. Even if your opponent doesn't buy it, his friends will."
Ignoring the fact that Mike's out-of-state friends are currently having a little trouble in court over their oversight in 2006 of those pesky Indiana laws, it's notable Sodrel's campaign website is still hosting various attack ads that don't exactly place Sodrel above the fray. But I guess when you count Karl Rove as one of your closest campaign supporters, a little misrepresentation of reality just comes with the territory.
