Although it appeared in the Star this morning, the lengthy piece on Congressman Baron Hill is actually as Washington Post story that has been picked up nationally. It provides a pretty insightful look at the myriad forces pulling on the 9th District representative as he struggles to keep everyone at the table during the ongoing (and contentious) health care debates.
Hill predicts "enormous changes" in the House bill before any measure becomes law, but he said he is committed to the outlines of Obama's proposal, including a public option. He knows he will hear from critics in a politically divided district where he has won five times and lost once.

"They say I was against the Obama plan but voted for it? Yeah, after changes were made, I did, of course," Hill said in an interview. "What they're not telling you is that I was at the table, changing the bill to make it better, more moderate, more acceptable."
Hill is adamant that the bill is still a "work in progress," but seems to be striking an optimistic tone that an agreement can be reached in the coming month.
While Republican leaders run around screaming "fire" in the crowded political theater -- see: Palin, Sarah or Pence, Mike -- it is nice to see responsible leadership from people like Baron.
