What Would St. Ronnie Do?

Well, we can let history be our guide (4.00 / 3)

St. Ronald would write his options long-hand; fax them to Rush; tell the Pentagon to fund a new military program to help, and borrow to pay for it, even if it duplicated a program already in existence.

And, of course, if were early afternoon, he'd watch his stories, lie down for a nap, and ask Mommie to wake him by 4.

History is kind with regard to Reagan's folksiness and ability to move mountains via rhetoric.  But history has already judged his fiscal policies--pay attention kiddies: all the current unemployment data is being compared to 1982's 14.85% for a reason.

Ronald Reagan was a budget-buster, plainly and simply.  He was a Big Spender.  He worshipped the Pentagon, whose procurement troughs were awash with his political contributors, and whose conscience knew no bounds.

But I gotta admit, that speech in Germany, "tear down this wall," was brilliant.

from a man who rarely darkened the doors of a church, pre- or post presidency.

A great communicator, but a bigger hypocrite the White House has never seen.  He allowed his minions to be mean-spirited.  He spawned reckless action in his name and then acted as if he was surprised (reference Oliver North).  

I know it's mean, but when he finally died, I was happy his nightmare of Alzheimer's was over, but: I was damned tired of seeing them haul his coffin all over the country so we could weep. I was much more torn up by Gerald Ford's death. 'Cause he had, well...a conscience.  And a wife with a soul.
