Ever since late 2006, good ol' Millionaire Mike Sodrel has been under fire for closing his official Congressional Office a full month before Congressman Baron Hill was sworn in and assumed responsibility of constituent services in the district. Worse yet, Sodrel by all accounts refused to cooperate with Hill's incoming district-level staff, leaving people with ongoing cases out in the cold in terms of their questions and requests.
Yesterday, Democrats took aim at Sodrel over the issue, and the response is a classic display of what most of us would describe Arrogant Sonofabitch Syndrome, or A.S.S. for short.
"Sodrel closed his offices on December 15th, despite the fact that each Member of Congress is able to keep offices open until the new Member is sworn into office in January. Sodrel closed his offices around the District without any forwarding information provided to constituents who called the abandoned phone lines. Sodrel's unfounded claim that his staff sent letters to any individual with an open case is news to the constituents of the Ninth District, as not a single letter has been confirmed by any constituent. He refused to transfer (any) open casework, despite repeated efforts by Congressman Hill's staff to recover this information."
Sodrel campaign manager Ryan Reger, responding via e-mail late Monday afternoon, dismissed the Democrats' accusations as old and inaccurate news.
"This question has been asked and answered," Reger's e-mail said in part. "Sodrel is confident that his staff followed the proper procedure in closing his congressional office.
In other words, "Despite the claims of constituents across the 9th District, this isn't an issue because Mike Sodrel says it isn't."
Regardless of whether this is a result of ignorance, self-denial or outright lying, the message is still same: Mike Sodrel doesn't really care.
All of this would be shocking if it wasn't for the fact that we know Millionaire Mike took his leadership lessons from a guy who has shown a particularly acute case of A.S.S. over the last eight years or so.
