Obama plans event in Indianapolis on Saturday?

by: Thomas

Wed Aug 20, 2008 at 14:15:58 PM EDT

Hot off the presses:
CBS News chief political consultant Marc Ambinder confirms that Barack Obama is scheduled to visit Indianapolis on Saturday-a nugget that is sure to add to speculation that the Democrat will pick Indiana Sen. Evan Bayh to be his running mate.

The Nashville Post, which broke the news of Obama's impending visit, reports that the trip to Indianapolis includes a "major event" and that senior Obama officials are being called in from around the country to attend.

CBS News previously reported that Obama plans a major rally with his newly announced running mate in Springfield, Illinois, on Saturday at the site where Obama launched his presidential campaign.
A grain of salt should be taken if you're looking to read really far into this announcement. A swing-state push was planned for Saturday, and our geographic proximity to Illinois makes a visit pretty logistically sound, regardless of who the VP pick happens to be.

Also, the word on the street is that ABC news received a flat denial on the trip details, so everyone should use caution when interpreting the tea leaves.

Cue media frenzy.

Hmmmm (0.00 / 0)
What time and where is this visit supposed to be?

Hmm (0.00 / 0)
Word came to me late last night that stagehands have been hired for Saturday for an mysterious event downtown, with no exact location specified until this afternoon for the stagehands hired, and with nothing on the concert schedule to match.

Then, this morning, the Star runs this article about Mike Fisher, an Amtrak worker from Beech Grove speaking at the convention.

Yeah, our boy Evan Bayh has GOT to be it. Today is announcement day. W00t!

I dont think (4.00 / 2)
that him coming to Indiana means he has chosen Bayh. Obama is doing a swing state tour with his VP before the convention begins.

Whew! (0.00 / 0)
I hope you are correct.

And you prefer whom? (4.00 / 1)
Biden is owned by the credit card companies and voted for the Iraq War.

Kaine is pro-life and has a slimmer record than Obama in government.

Sebelius too has less government experience than Obama but has a record of bipartisan success.

Who should be chosen?

Hoosier Progressive

Biden (4.00 / 2)
Is an attack dog, has full experience, and has a son in Iraq... to name a few.

I don't think that's true... (0.00 / 0)
Biden's son, the Attorney General of Delaware, is not in Iraq.  His unit is going to Iraq later this year but it's not clear that he will be among the deployed.

And as far as being an "attack dog," Biden is just as likely to say something embarassing to Obama as he is bad about McCain (something about Obama being a "clean and articulate" black man perhaps?).

He did okay during the primaries. (4.00 / 1)
He had the "clean and articulate" comment pretty early, but didn't make any "gaffes" afterwards that I can recall.

In our current political climate when every word is parsed 20 ways to Sunday, I'd say that's no worse than anyone else.

Yes, even Democratic authority.

Biden has two sons.

Biden's son, Beau, WILL go to Iraq on Oct. 3rd. (0.00 / 0)
