It had been a while since SurveyUSA checked in with some poll numbers, and I was beginning to think they had forgotten about us. Not so, says Daily Activist, and thus I will dutifully report the word from the front.
Those who support John McCain -- or, as we've seen, have an irrational hatred of Barack Obama -- will point to these numbers as a sign that the Republicans will hold on to the Hoosier State in November. While that could end up being true, it's important to keep in mind a few things.
1) The fact that Indiana is competitive at all is a sign of the strong infrastructure Obama's campaign has built across the country. 2) Obama is about to get a big (read: BIG) boost from his running mate selection and the Democratic National Convention. 3) As much as I am a fan of SUSA, it's critical to keep in mind that this year, turnout will be unlike anything we've seen on the Democratic side. I'm willing to bet that Obama will enjoy a 2-3% boost from his GOTV efforts, and that won't likely show on these early surveys.
