Hillary Clinton, meet Indiana

by: Thomas

Thu Mar 20, 2008 at 08:35:38 AM EDT

Sen. Hillary Clinton will be stumping across the state today, giving Hoosiers their first chance to catch a glimpse of the presidential contender as the race for Indiana's delegates heats up. For a full schedule, you can check out indianaphoto's diary, but Mary Beth Schneider offers an overview for those of you looking for a good summary:
Joe Hogsett, co-chairman of Clinton's campaign in Indiana, said that although the Evansville stop will be "a good old-fashioned political rally and hootenanny," her visits in Terre Haute and Anderson will be chances for Clinton to engage Hoosiers in a conversation, "doing as much listening as talking."

In Terre Haute, she'll be chatting with folks at the Saratoga restaurant. Then she'll field questions in a town hall meeting in Anderson High School's gymnasium, The Wigwam.

Clinton will discuss "how she's going to turn the economy around here in Indiana, protect manufacturing jobs and create more jobs, and also about her qualifications to be commander in chief," said Robby Mook, state director for Clinton's campaign.

You hear that folks? A good old-fashioned hootenanny.

Hooray.

waiting (4.00 / 2)
I wonder if she will reveal her tax returns for 2006.  Every original candidate both GOP and Dem has done so.......why is she waiting and what is she hiding????

I'm all for transparency -- (0.00 / 0)
But I honestly can't get worked up about this. I would like to see her do it, to be sure, but tax returns don't excite me very much.

Really? (0.00 / 0)
You're not the least bit concerned about the fact that she said she would release them only after she received the nomination?  That doesn't indicate that she has something to hide from Democrats?

[ Parent ]
Meh -- (0.00 / 0)
I'm really not all that worried about it. The GOP is going to attack our nominee no matter who it is, and while if there is something there I will gladly let you tell me how wrong I was, I just think this is pretty low on my list of things to stress out over.

Chatting with "folks"? (0.00 / 0)
At the Saratoga?!!? The Saratoga is the "in" place for daily "pol" munching and chewing the fat in Terre Haute. Still, WISHTV-8 had a crew out there this a.m. and it actually looked like "folks" lined up to get in.

Oddly enough, there were no Secret Service agents there (that I could see) to screen the "folks".

To put it into perspective, though -- (0.00 / 0)
McCain only let in like 30 "folks" out of hundred-odd people who lined up to see him, and oddly enough, they didn't even have us go through metal detectors or anything. There was literally no security -- and I was carrying a camera bag that received zero scrutiny.

The Channel 8 reporter (4.00 / 1)
said that a line jumper was turned back. He was probably a Republican looking to make a scene.

Terre Haute (and Evansville, for that matter) are pretty good choices for Hillary to visit. I'm not sure that Anderson will be the same.

Anderson has a lot in common... (0.00 / 0)
...with the rust-belt cities and towns that Hillary carried in eastern Ohio -- I think she's looking to repeat that here. In the least, she's brought all of those Ohio people here to do her best replication routine.

Senators (0.00 / 0)
It was way cool to see live on CNN Senator Bayh and Senator Clinton with our own Indianapolis Senator Jeannie Breaux sitting behind them. Jean could have looked a tad more interested...

ELLSWORTH FOR SENATE 2010

My roommate... (0.00 / 0)
...planned on going to the event in Anderson today.  I'll get his impression on the event when we both get home.

You'd like him, Mario Cuomo, he's a diehard Clinton fan.  ;)

Prior to this election, we almost always agreed on politics or, at least, could discuss politics civilly.  With this election, we've both gotten angry with each other and have started making an effort to steer clear from the subject lest one of us pushes the other too far.

I can't wait for this primary season to be over so that, hopefully, Democrats can start coming together and focusing on McCain.

Yes, even Democratic authority.

Never (0.00 / 0)
I have been a Democrat since the 1960's when I first voted but for the first time,  if Hillary Clinton is our nominee,  I will either not vote or vote repubican for president..which I have never done.  She is mean, lying and race baiting.

[ Parent ]
Funnily enough (0.00 / 0)
It's bullshit like this that has me considering sitting out the Presidential vote if Obama is our nominee.  I'd never vote Republican, though.  That's just inexcusable.

Hey! (0.00 / 0)
Set us up.  She's our girl.

Keep the faith:  The DNC has already come out with ads against McCain.  Aka McSame as Bush.

Yeah -- the polling on matchups with McCain... (4.00 / 1)
...will change dramatically when the primary is over, no matter who the nominee is.
